I love roller skating, camping, hiking, and all things tennis.
I'm a mom, author, educator, Registered Nurse, and education researcher.
I'm also a PhD candidate (SFU) in the lower mainland. My area of research is special education. My PhD thesis examines relationships between PD and the teaching practices of Ontario SpEd teachers who work in racialized SpEd classrooms.
Im a guest on the territories of the Anishinaabe, and Missisaugas of the Credit.
I like troubling the tensions. .
When I'm not trying to solve mystery novels or devouring any form of potato, I love spending time with my fluffy dog, Marlowe, and my husband, Jamil.
I teach high school English in British Columbia on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish, and Musqueam Nations.
In addition to being a teacher, I recently graduated with my Master’s degree in Education from Simon Fraser University.
I'm passionate about social justice and work hard to better understand how I can help to make systemic changes in the education system.
HI, my name is Muna and I am currently finishing up my Ph.D. in Gender Studies at Queen’s University, where I also completed my M.A. My research interests pertain to Black feminist literary production, archives, and contemporary Black print counter-publics in the Atlantic world. Outside of my professional interests, I also spend my days enjoying quality time with my family and friends, watching reality tv and making way too many playlists. I am so excited to be joining the team and hopefully contributing to the meaningful work YAIJ does around racial (and) disability justice.
My name is Aiden and I’ve been with YAIJ since 2023 during the Youth Employment Futures Program (YEFP). When I was a part of it I learned a lot of skills I can use when I’m in a work environment and for my board member position. Before I became a board member I was a photographer and videographer and I would film music videos for musical artist, I still do that currently but I do that on the side now. When I was with YAIJ I had a lot of positive experiences so I’m excited to be board member for it and have some good and memorable moments along the way.
I love getting out on the track to race karts and cars. My favorite season is summer - I can work out outside, enjoy the sun and go camping.
I'm finishing up high school, which was difficult. I plan on going to college (Mohawk) to study automotive technology.
YAIJ is important to me because I matter, youth like me matter, and we should be able to feel safe, accepted and feel like we belong. Being invisible and rejected is not ok. I'm ready to make waves to get justice for youth like me.
Hello, my name is Malachi. I’m 18 years old and graduated from high school. I live with my mom, my dad, and my younger sister. While I like doing many things, I primarily enjoy reading books, taking walks in the park or riding my bicycle.
My favorite things about YAIJ is the inclusivity, the events and the opportunities. I am truly fortunate to be a member of this group

Ali C, also known by their music name proXima.CENTAURI, is a nonbinary autistic rapper, producer and graphic designer from Toronto. They tackle several topics in their lyrics that are very personal to them; such as dealing with homophobia, neurodivergence, anxiety, being a mostly non-verbal social outcast, as well as trying to maintain confidence in themself despite all their insecurities.
It's extremely important for Black neurodivergent platforms like this to exist, because Ali c has always felt alone and have never met other Black people dealing with similar struggles until 2023.
Now as a 26-year-old, they feel elated to be part of a community of people that makes them feel understood. They hope to bring other Black neurodivergent people as well as black queer people together through music, visual art and any other medium that they choose to express themself with.
Hi, my name is Angelina I recently graduated college with a diploma in advertising Marketing communications and will be attending University in the fall. As a woman of colour who struggles with anxiety, I am excited to join the YAIJ team and spread awareness on intersectionality and inclusion.
I’ve been involved in the field of mental health peer support for the past decade, where much of my work has focused on the intersections of mental health/Madness, disability, neurodiversity, chronic illness/pain, and queer/trans identity. It has been a pleasure working with such a fantastic team to develop peer support training grounded

It has been a pleasure working with such a fantastic team to develop peer support training grounded in the strengths and knowledges of Black, racialized, and neurodiverse communities. As a white settler, I am committed to an ongoing process of learning how I can best work in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities, and leverage my privilege to support the crafting of decolonial futures. When I’m not geeking out about peer support, you can find me making zines, drinking purple basil lemonade, hanging out with my family of cats and plants, thinking with fungi, and dreaming alternative futures.

I have been with YAIJ since 2022 and love to continue working alongside all staff and members of our amazing organization!
Beyond my work at YAIJ and my time studying for the LSAT, I spend most of my time reading, working out, and capturing moments through photography.

Advocating for marginalized folks has always been my passion and I have had the opportunity to explore the ways in which I can make an impact through my undergraduate education as an honours political science student at McMaster University, through various work experiences, and through meaningful conversations with people who have diverse and unique experiences. I have to say that my experiences with YAIJ in the peer supporter training program has been so unique and rewarding as I’ve met so many amazing people and love to watch our participants grow and develop new skills and interests throughout the program. Some of my other passions include acting, dancing, and trying new foods from different cultures!
Throughout my youth I have been deeply involved with my community and had amazing opportunities to volunteer and work with marginalized children and youth. It is these experiences that inspired me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Honours Health and Society with a Specialization in Mental Health and Addiction at McMaster University. Du
